Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally laid the foundation stone for a massive 1,000-bed multi super specialty government hospital within the King Institute campus at Guindy, Chennai. Sanctioned at 230 crore rupees, the modern medical institution will feature six upper floors housing advanced surgical theaters, intensive care units, and specialized oncology, cardiology, neurology, and nephrology departments. Stalin noted that the facility will democratize access to advanced tertiary healthcare for underprivileged citizens.
The new hospital fulfills a major budgetary announcement to honor the centenary legacy of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Stalin stressed that patients from southern Chennai and neighboring suburban districts will no longer need to travel to crowded medical centers in central Chennai for complex surgical procedures. The hospital is designed with cutting-edge medical diagnostic technologies, modular operation rooms, and dedicated outpatient blocks to handle heavy patient loads efficiently.
Stalin reiterated that his administration is driven by the principle of high-quality healthcare for all, eliminating economic barriers to medical treatment. He commended public health engineers and medical administrators for drafting comprehensive blueprints, assuring that the hospital will stand as a premier beacon of compassionate, accessible, and world-class public healthcare in Tamil Nadu.
