Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin articulated the progressive rationale behind transforming the longstanding Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar memorial financial assistance into a dedicated Higher Education Assurance Scheme for girls. Addressing public deliberations, Stalin emphasized that true women empowerment begins when young women attain collegiate qualifications and professional capabilities prior to marriage. He noted that higher education provides women with permanent economic assets, personal autonomy, and social dignity, shielding them from early marriages and lifelong dependency.
Under the restructured initiative, girl students from state government schools who pursue undergraduate degree, diploma, or vocational courses receive monthly financial stipends directly into their bank accounts. This sustained educational incentive removes financial barriers, prevents higher secondary dropouts, and enables young women from disadvantaged backgrounds to enter universities and engineering colleges. Stalin appealed to all political parties and civic groups to embrace this revolutionary reform as a vital social equalizer.
The Chief Minister underlined that Dravidian ideology has historically championed women liberation, gender equality, and educational rights as the bedrock of social justice. Stalin affirmed that his government will continuously expand affirmative welfare programs, ensuring that Tamil Nadu daughters lead progressive careers, shatter glass ceilings, and build self-reliant futures.
