Commemorating World Water Day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a passionate call to protect the state precious hydrological resources and firmly uphold its legitimate riparian rights. Stalin stressed that water security is the lifeblood of Tamil Nadu agriculture, rural livelihoods, and ecological balance. He declared that his government stands resolute in defending the state statutory water entitlements across interstate river basins, ensuring adequate irrigation for farming communities and drinking water for all living beings.
Stalin highlighted his administration extensive water conservation initiatives, including large-scale desilting of irrigation canals, restoration of ancient waterbodies, and construction of check dams across drought-prone districts. He noted that proactive water management directly supports agricultural self-reliance and prevents devastating agrarian distress. The Chief Minister urged citizens, farmers, and civic bodies to participate actively in rainwater harvesting and watershed conservation, stressing that every drop of water must be preserved for future generations.
Reiterating that water rights are inextricably tied to state autonomy and federal justice, Stalin assured the people of Tamil Nadu that his government will never permit unlawful infringements on interstate river waters. He affirmed that sustainable water governance under the Dravidian model guarantees food security, environmental vitality, and enduring prosperity statewide.
