Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted an on-site inspection of stormwater drain reconstruction works in the Adyar zone of Greater Chennai Corporation. The infrastructure project, undertaken at an estimated outlay of 5.84 crore rupees, aims to overhaul vulnerable canal links and enhance rainwater drainage capacity across surrounding residential neighborhoods. Stalin closely examined engineering schematics and directed field personnel to expedite construction without compromising structural standards.
Recalling hardships faced by city residents during previous severe northeast monsoons, Stalin instructed municipal commissioners, engineers, and administrative staff to finish all drain restoration works well before the upcoming monsoon season. He emphasized that flood vulnerability must be tackled through systematic canal desilting, interconnecting missing links, and constructing resilient underground culverts across all municipal zones. Stalin demanded strict monitoring to avoid water stagnation in residential areas.
The Chief Minister underlined that civic infrastructure upgrades remain a cornerstone of urban welfare under the Dravidian model of governance. He affirmed that his administration is executing comprehensive flood alleviation schemes across Chennai, ensuring that improved civic planning, modern drainage networks, and proactive administrative vigilance permanently safeguard citizens from recurring inundation.
