Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched a trenchant critique against the Union government decision to introduce the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions to central universities, demanding its immediate withdrawal. Stalin argued that imposing a centralized entrance examination renders twelve years of comprehensive school education completely meaningless. He asserted that CUET severely penalizes students from state board schools and rural backgrounds who lack financial resources to afford expensive private coaching.
The Chief Minister pointed out that entrance examinations like CUET inevitably spawn a predatory coaching center industry, transforming higher education into an exclusive preserve of affluent urban classes. He emphasized that evaluating students based on standardized multi-choice tests rather than continuous high school academic performance destroys educational equity. Stalin highlighted that education must remain responsive to regional diversity and local curricula rather than subjected to heavy-handed central standardization.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian model governance will relentlessly resist any central policies that undermine state educational autonomy and social justice. He urged democratic forces across India to unite against centralizing exam systems, reaffirming Tamil Nadu commitment to safeguarding accessible and egalitarian higher education for all students.
