Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin met with a delegation of transgender persons, including sister Ria, extending heartfelt greetings on the occasion of Transgender Persons Day. Stalin recalled the pioneering social justice legacy of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who introduced the dignified Tamil term Thirunangai and established the country first Transgender Welfare Board to secure their fundamental human rights and social recognition.
The Chief Minister affirmed that his administration continues to walk resolutely along the egalitarian path forged by Dravidian leaders. He pointed out that the government is expanding social security measures, housing allotments, and educational support tailored to ensure that transgender and gender-diverse individuals lead secure, self-reliant lives. Stalin stressed that society must dismantle stigma, protect bodily autonomy, and integrate sexual and gender minorities into mainstream education and employment without discrimination.
Stalin pledged that the Dravidian model administration will relentlessly champion the rights, safety, and economic empowerment of trans women and trans men across Tamil Nadu. He called upon civil society to embrace inclusivity and celebrate diversity, assuring the transgender community that the state government remains their unyielding advocate in all arenas of public life.
