Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin shared the dais with Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana during the foundation stone laying ceremony for a nine-storey administrative block at the Madras High Court. Speaking at the commemorative gathering, Stalin placed three pivotal demands before the top judicial leadership to enhance justice delivery across the southern states. He urged the judiciary to maintain social justice in judicial appointments, reflecting regional diversity and inclusive representation.
Stalin urged the Chief Justice to grant official approval for using Tamil in Madras High Court proceedings. He highlighted that conducting court hearings in the regional tongue enables ordinary litigants to comprehend legal arguments and judicial orders directly. He stressed that mother tongue proceedings eliminate alienation among grassroots citizens seeking constitutional relief.
The Chief Minister called for establishing a permanent regional bench of the Supreme Court in Chennai. He pointed out that southern litigants face steep travel expenses and logistical hardships when filing appeals in New Delhi. Stalin affirmed that decentralized judicial structures protect constitutional rights and bring supreme justice closer to citizens across southern India. He stressed that regional benches strengthen national integration by making top constitutional justice affordable and accessible.
