Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the state iconic East Coast Road connecting Chennai and Mamallapuram will be officially named after former Chief Minister Muthamizharignar Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi. Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebrations of the State Highways Department in Chennai, Stalin emphasized that modern road networks represent the most visible benchmark of administrative progress, economic vitality, and state-wide development.

The Chief Minister recalled that it was during Karunanidhi tenure as Chief Minister that a dedicated, independent Highways Department was established to spearhead infrastructure modernization across Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that quality road connectivity accelerates industrial investment, reduces transport logistics costs, connects rural agrarian pockets to urban consumer markets, and enhances passenger safety along key transit corridors.

Stalin commended highway engineers, technicians, and field workers for their sustained dedication to building durable bridges, expressways, and bypass roads statewide. He directed the department to prioritize eco-friendly engineering, strict quality control, and rapid project execution under the Dravidian model administration. The Chief Minister reiterated that continuous infrastructure modernization remains central to transforming Tamil Nadu into an economic powerhouse with world-class logistics facilities.
