Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that Governor R.N. Ravi has forwarded the state legislative assembly bill seeking exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for the assent of the President of India. Stalin described the development as a significant milestone resulting from the unyielding resolve, sustained political pressure, and united efforts of the elected government and democratic forces in Tamil Nadu.

The Chief Minister declared that securing exemption from the centralized medical entrance test is intimately tied to the sovereign legislative authority of the state assembly and federal autonomy. He pointed out that the entrance examination severely disadvantages students from rural backgrounds, Tamil-medium institutions, and marginalized socioeconomic communities who lack access to expensive private coaching facilities.

Stalin called upon all political parties, student organizations, and citizens to maintain their solidarity and continue collective advocacy until final presidential assent is secured. Reaffirming his constitutional commitment to social justice and state rights, Stalin pledged that the elected Tamil Nadu government will vigorously pursue every democratic and legal pathway to protect the medical aspirations of underprivileged youth across the state.
