Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin flagged off an ocean cargo vessel carrying vital humanitarian relief consignments from the Chennai Port to provide urgent assistance to civilian populations in Sri Lanka facing severe economic and financial distress. The relief shipment comprised thousands of metric tonnes of essential food grains, rice, life-saving medicines, and infant milk powder procured and organized by the state government.
Stalin emphasized that the people of Tamil Nadu could not remain passive spectators while neighbouring communities across the Palk Strait endured acute shortages of basic provisions and healthcare essentials. He pointed out that the state legislative assembly had unanimously passed a resolution authorizing this humanitarian initiative, with the administration coordinating swiftly with central authorities to secure diplomatic clearances.
The Chief Minister highlighted that humanitarian empathy transcends political boundaries, reflecting the deep cultural, linguistic, and historical bonds shared between the peoples of both regions. He commended charitable contributors, civil society organizations, and state logistics teams for expediting cargo dispatch. Reaffirming Tamil Nadu tradition of solidarity during crises, Stalin pledged continuous assistance to help vulnerable Sri Lankan families navigate their economic hardship with dignity.
