Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin appealed to citizens across the state to actively adopt the Meendum Manjappai initiative, reiterating the urgent necessity of replacing single-use plastic bags with traditional yellow cloth bags. Emphasizing public participation as the cornerstone of environmental preservation, Stalin stated that sustainable consumer habits are essential to protecting regional ecosystems from persistent plastic pollution.
The Chief Minister highlighted that localized environmental awareness campaigns must expand vigorously across residential neighborhoods, commercial markets, and educational institutions. He underscored that government departments, municipal corporations, and rural local bodies have accelerated distribution drives and field enforcement checks to curb prohibited plastic packaging across retail centers.
Stalin observed that reviving the heritage of reusable cloth bags directly reinforces environmental resilience and safeguards marine life, soil fertility, and urban drainage networks from clogging. He called upon dedicated women self-help groups, trade associations, and youth volunteers to lead community outreach initiatives promoting cloth bags. Reaffirming the state government dedication to sustainable ecological governance under the Dravidian model, Stalin stressed that individual lifestyle changes will collectively deliver a cleaner, greener Tamil Nadu for future generations.
