Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted an on-site field inspection of desilting and channel-clearing operations at the Bheemanodai drainage canal in Thanjavur district. Visiting the site during his extensive two-day tour of the Cauvery Delta region, Stalin assessed the progress achieved in restoring the hydraulic efficiency of the drainage system. Accompanied by senior engineers from the Water Resources Department and district officials, the Chief Minister inspected excavated sections of the canal bed.
The Bheemanodai channel serves as an indispensable drainage corridor that regulates excess water runoff from thousands of acres of cultivated farmland across Thanjavur. Stalin reviewed engineering maps outlining silt removal targets, vegetation clearance, and embankment restoration designed to prevent crop inundation during heavy monsoonal rainfall. He directed field personnel to complete all pending structural repairs on culvert passages and sluice regulators before peak seasonal flows begin.
Interacting with local farming representatives, Stalin reaffirmed his government's proactive commitment to comprehensive water management. He highlighted that timely desilting of drainage channels safeguards vulnerable crops against water stagnation while promoting optimal soil conditions, thereby protecting farmer investments throughout the agrarian belt of Thanjavur.
