Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspected desilting operations at the Ramachandran irrigation canal located near Thirukkadaiyur in Mayiladuthurai district. The site visit was conducted as part of the Chief Minister's intensive two-day inspection across the Cauvery Delta to verify canal preparedness before the arrival of Mettur Dam waters. Stalin reviewed engineering maps and surveyed the excavated waterway alongside senior officials from the Water Resources Department.
The Chief Minister examined structural reinforcements along the canal banks and confirmed that sediment accumulations obstructing normal flow velocities had been eliminated completely. He emphasized that the Ramachandran canal serves as an essential channel supplying vital irrigation to hundreds of agricultural holdings in surrounding agrarian settlements. Stalin instructed engineers to complete all remaining finishing touches on culverts and regulatory shutters without any administrative delay or seasonal disruption.
Meeting local farmers on site, Stalin listened attentively to their suggestions concerning localized water regulation and agricultural inputs. The Chief Minister affirmed that his government is taking proactive measures to ensure reliable irrigation supplies reach tail-end fields, thereby supporting robust agricultural output and protecting farmer livelihoods across Mayiladuthurai.
