Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted on-site inspections of desilting works across river systems and irrigation canals on the second day of his tour in the Cauvery Delta districts. Stalin announced that the Water Resources Department completed 683 distinct desilting projects covering a total length of 4,964.11 kilometers across regional waterways. The inspection covered vital drainage pathways and distribution channels in Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts ahead of the advancing Kuruvai cultivation season.
The Chief Minister reviewed technical measurements, depth profiles, and embankment stabilization works alongside field engineers and district collectors. Stalin stressed that comprehensive desilting prevents waterlogging during monsoon downpours while enabling smooth water conveyance to distant downstream fields. He interacted directly with local farmers gathered at inspection sites, listening carefully to their observations regarding seasonal water delivery schedules and local canal clearance.
Stalin expressed complete confidence that diligent engineering execution will guarantee Cauvery water reaching the furthest tail-end fields without delay. He reaffirmed that maximizing agricultural yield and securing enduring prosperity for delta cultivators represent the central commitments of his administration under the Dravidian model of governance.
