Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched an intensive public cleanliness drive and environmental sanitation campaign across Chennai, broadcasting the inaugural proceedings live from municipal headquarters. Organized to commemorate the 99th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, the statewide campaign deployed municipal sanitation teams to conduct intensive desilting of stormwater drains, garbage clearance in residential neighborhoods, and anti-larval mosquito fogging operations.
The Chief Minister stressed that public health and urban sanitation represent fundamental municipal responsibilities that demand active community cooperation. Stalin instructed municipal commissioners and public health officials to ensure continuous waste management, eliminate open dumping yards, and modernize mechanical sweeping operations across commercial zones. In parallel with physical cleaning operations, health workers set up mobile awareness kiosks to educate citizens regarding source segregation of household waste and monsoon disease prevention.
Stalin affirmed that his administration is investing heavily in modern sanitation equipment, underground sewage treatment plants, and upgraded working conditions for municipal sanitation workers. He urged city residents to cooperate actively with civic personnel and maintain clean neighborhood surroundings to protect public health across all urban centers in Tamil Nadu.
