Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued an call to food business operators and citizens on the occasion of World Food Safety Day, emphasizing that access to safe, nutritious food constitutes a fundamental human right. Stalin highlighted that the state government undertakes regular administrative inspections, laboratory testing, and stringent regulatory measures to prevent food adulteration and contamination. He asserted that preparing and serving food should be approached as an ethical civic responsibility rather than a mere commercial pursuit.
The Chief Minister explained that ensuring food safety requires vigilant enforcement across the entire food supply chain, from farm harvest and wholesale transit to restaurant kitchens and street food stalls. Stalin pointed out that the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has intensified monitoring of eateries, bakeries, oil mills, and packaged water facilities across all districts. Commercial establishments found violating hygiene norms or using toxic chemical additives face immediate legal penalties, license cancellations, and criminal prosecution.
Stalin urged the public to cultivate awareness regarding food labeling, expiry dates, and hygienic storage practices. He affirmed that his administration remains dedicated to safeguarding public health by building robust food testing laboratories and ensuring clean, safe food for all citizens.
