Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin commemorated World Refugee Day, recalling that the United Nations General Assembly officially established the international observance in the year 2000. Stalin underscored that the humanitarian obligation to shelter and protect displaced human beings aligns naturally with the ancient Tamil philosophical doctrine, Yadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir, which declares all towns our home and all humans our kin. He stated that this timeless ethical vision continues to govern Tamil Nadu's generous approach toward persecuted communities.
The Chief Minister observed that millions of innocent people across the world continue to be uprooted by armed conflicts, authoritarian repression, climate emergencies, and economic collapse. Stalin emphasized that civil society and progressive governments must reject xenophobic rhetoric and ensure safety for those forced to abandon their native homelands. He pointed out that Tamil civilization has historically welcomed migrant communities, enriching its cultural fabric while defending humanitarian ideals.
Stalin urged global institutions and national administrations to uphold international conventions on refugee protection and human dignity. He reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu will consistently champion human brotherhood, offering shelter, safety, and inclusive welfare to vulnerable people seeking sanctuary within its borders.
