Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin outlined administrative interventions undertaken to ensure dignity and economic security for Sri Lankan Tamil families living in the state. Stalin pointed out that his government officially replaced the term refugee camp with Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp to eliminate social stigma and affirm their dignity. He noted that the state has rolled out specialized welfare schemes, including new housing units, enhanced monthly financial assistance, educational scholarships, and subsidized gas connections.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government is actively pursuing policy measures regarding citizenship rights and permanent residency guarantees for camp residents. Stalin noted that thousands of families have resided in Tamil Nadu for decades following ethnic conflict, contributing peacefully to the local economy while remaining deprived of basic civic documentation. The state administration continues to urge the Union government to formulate compassionate legal pathways granting citizenship or dual citizenship to eligible refugees.
Stalin stressed that protecting the fundamental human rights of displaced ethnic kin remains an sacred cultural and political responsibility. He reiterated that his administration will continue upgrading basic infrastructure, healthcare access, and vocational training across all rehabilitation centers to secure their future.
