Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid tribute to former Prime Minister V.P. Singh on his birth anniversary, commemorating his historic role as the guardian of social justice. Stalin praised Singh for courageously implementing the recommendations of the Mandal Commission, which extended reservations in central government employment to Other Backward Classes. He noted that Singh sacrificed political power to secure institutional representation for marginalized communities who had endured centuries of educational and socioeconomic exclusion.
The Chief Minister emphasized that affirmative action remains an fundamental constitutional right rather than an act of official charity. Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu will consistently champion the ideological legacy of V.P. Singh by defending existing reservation quotas and advocating for proportional representation in all sectors. He pointed out that Dravidian movement pioneers, including Thanthai Periyar and M. Karunanidhi, shared a deep ideological bond with Singh during the nationwide struggle for Mandal reservations.
Stalin called upon progressive political parties and civil rights organizations across India to protect reservation rights against judicial dilution and administrative neglect. He reiterated that true democratic governance requires genuine power sharing and equitable opportunities for historically oppressed communities across every state in India.
