Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially released the academic volume titled Rule of the Commoner: DMK and the Formations of the Political in Tamil Nadu, 1949–1967, co-published by Cambridge University Press and ICAS:MP. Presenting the book at a ceremonial event in Chennai, Stalin warmly commended co-authors Rajan Kurai Krishnan, Ravindran Sriramachandran, and V.M.S. Subagunarajan for producing an insightful, rigorous scholarly analysis of the party's formative political and ideological journey.
The publication provides an in-depth academic examination of how the DMK mobilized working-class citizens, subaltern communities, and regional literary forms to construct a modern democratic political public in South India. Stalin observed that the book successfully documents how the Dravidian movement democratized public rhetoric, challenged caste hegemony, and fostered popular political participation between 1949 and its historic 1967 electoral victory. He highlighted that scholarly works of this caliber introduce global academic audiences to Tamil Nadu's distinct social justice model.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the DMK's legacy belongs to the collective struggle of commoners fighting for dignity and self-respect. Stalin encouraged universities and research institutions to foster continued academic inquiry into Dravidian political thought and democratic institution-building.
