I thank Hon'ble Union Finance Minister @nsitharaman for accepting our invitation and agreeing to have the next #GSTCouncilMeet at Madurai. On behalf of the Temple City and its people, we warmly welcome the Hon'ble Union Ministers, Hon'ble State Ministers and senior officials!
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin thanked Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for accepting the Tamil Nadu government's formal invitation to convene the upcoming Goods and Services Tax Council meeting in Madurai. Extending a warm welcome on behalf of the historic Temple City and the people of Tamil Nadu, Stalin greeted Union Ministers, State Finance Ministers, and senior financial bureaucrats scheduled to participate in the high-level national fiscal deliberations.
Madurai, celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and commercial dynamism, offers an ideal venue for crucial interstate economic consultations. Stalin highlighted that hosting the GST Council in Tamil Nadu provides national policymakers an opportunity to observe the state's progressive fiscal management and industrial vibrancy firsthand. During GST Council deliberations, Tamil Nadu has consistently advocated for protecting state revenue autonomy, extending GST compensation mechanisms, and rationalizing tax rates on essential consumer goods and micro enterprises.
The Chief Minister assured that the state administration will extend exemplary hospitality and comprehensive logistical arrangements for the visiting dignitaries. Stalin affirmed Tamil Nadu's ongoing commitment to cooperative federalism, constructive fiscal dialogue, and defending the constitutional revenue rights of state governments within the national tax framework.
