Dear @YashwantSinha, It was an honour hosting you in Chennai yesterday.
Congrats on your nomination as the 'consensus candidate' of the Opp Parties. We have full faith in you to defend our constitution & offer our unstinted support to your candidature for the post of President.
Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin reiterated his party's wholehearted endorsement of Yashwant Sinha as the consensus presidential candidate nominated by allied national opposition parties. Recalling Sinha's campaign visit to Chennai, Stalin described hosting the veteran statesman as an honor and expressed firm confidence in his ability to safeguard constitutional values. He affirmed that the DMK and allied regional parties offer unstinted support to Sinha's candidature for the highest constitutional office in the republic.
Stalin underscored that the presidential election arrived at a critical juncture for Indian democracy, characterized by growing challenges to parliamentary norms, state autonomy, and secular governance. He pointed out that the President of India serves as the supreme custodian of the Constitution, tasked with defending institutional independence and national federal architecture. By supporting a seasoned, consensus-building candidate, democratic opposition parties sought to present a principled challenge to centralizing political tendencies.
The Chief Minister called upon parliamentarians and state legislators across parties to vote conscientiously in defense of democratic pluralism and constitutional governance. Stalin affirmed that DMK will continue playing an active role in uniting national and regional forces dedicated to secularism and federalism.
