Chief Minister M.K. Stalin honoured Justice Party leader Panagal Raja on his birth anniversary, recalling his transformative executive orders that advanced equal rights for depressed classes. Stalin highlighted that as Premier of Madras Presidency, Panagal Raja enacted pioneering legislative measures to grant women voting rights and municipal representation, laying the foundation for gender empowerment in South Indian public life. He also modernized regional infrastructure while dismantling systemic barriers in higher education.
Panagal Raja's administration eliminated Sanskrit language requirements that had historically barred non-Brahmin students from entering government medical colleges, opening professional healthcare training to all communities. Stalin pointed out that by democratizing recruitment in government services, Panagal Raja laid the legal groundwork for equitable public sector representation across diverse social groups. These visionary administrative interventions disrupted hereditary privileges and enabled marginalized communities to enter the professional middle class.
The Chief Minister affirmed that contemporary Tamil Nadu's human development achievements trace their roots directly to Panagal Raja's bold governance choices a century ago. Stalin reiterated his government's resolve to carry forward this emancipatory tradition, expanding affirmative action, protecting women's institutional representation, and fostering social mobility across all sectors of society.
