Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspected ongoing stormwater drain and flood prevention works valued at seventy-five crore rupees across Semmancheri in Chengalpattu district. The field inspection fulfilled a direct commitment made earlier to local residents vulnerable to seasonal waterlogging during monsoon downpours. Stalin reviewed engineering progress along key drainage channels, instructing municipal authorities and public works officials to accelerate construction timelines before the onset of northeast monsoon rains.
The seventy-five crore rupee project involves building reinforced concrete drains, deepening surplus water canals, and integrating local stormwater networks with regional drainage basins. Stalin emphasized that comprehensive flood mitigation requires scientific planning, unhindered waterway corridors, and durable construction rather than ad hoc emergency responses. He directed district engineers to clear canal bottlenecks, remove silt deposits, and ensure uninterrupted runoff discharge into designated coastal basins.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government is executing proactive flood-preparedness measures across vulnerable suburban localities around Chennai and Chengalpattu. Stalin assured residents that field inspections will continue regularly to monitor quality standards and ensure timely completion. He reiterated his administration's determination to safeguard urban communities, low-lying residential layouts, and public transport infrastructure from monsoon inundation.
