Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin led statewide celebrations on Tamil Nadu Day, paying reverent homage to the visionary leaders and brave martyrs whose tireless sacrifices shaped the linguistic state. Highlighting the historic significance of July 18, Stalin recalled that on this date in 1967, former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai fulfilled a sacred civilizational duty by moving a unanimous resolution in the Madras Legislative Assembly renaming the state as Tamil Nadu. Describing that moment as the eldest son ceremoniously naming his mother, the Chief Minister declared that the name Tamil Nadu represents not merely an emotional sentiment, but an unyielding assertion of self-respect and political rights forged with flesh and blood.
Stalin emphasized that modern Tamil Nadu was constructed on the rationalist foundations laid by Thanthai Periyar, Arignar Anna, and Muthamizharignar Karunanidhi. He saluted martyrs like Sankaralinganar who sacrificed their lives demanding the state's rightful name. The Chief Minister stressed that safeguarding Tamil identity, linguistic dignity, and federal rights remains central to the DMK's governance mission. Concluding with the spirited rallying cry of Long Live Tamil, May Tamil Nadu Triumph, Stalin pledged to protect state autonomy against all centralizing pressures.
