Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally announced that Chennai's second airport, a massive modern greenfield aviation facility, will be constructed at Parandur in Kancheepuram district. Explaining the strategic necessity of the project, Stalin emphasized that developing a second airport is indispensable to handle soaring passenger footfalls, expand international cargo operations, and prevent severe air traffic congestion in the state capital. He highlighted that state-of-the-art aviation connectivity forms the backbone of his administration's ambitious mission to elevate Tamil Nadu into a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030.
The Chief Minister pointed out that superior international connectivity will position Chennai as the most attractive destination for multinational investments, manufacturing hubs, and global logistics supply chains in Asia. The planned greenfield facility will operate alongside the existing airport at Meenambakkam, featuring world-class terminals, extended runways capable of handling wide-body aircraft, and seamless multi-modal transit links to industrial corridors. Stalin assured that land acquisition and infrastructure development will proceed with due administrative diligence, ensuring fair compensation and rehabilitation for local stakeholders. He reaffirmed that mega infrastructure investments remain vital to generating lakhs of high-value jobs for youth.
