Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin commemorated the silver jubilee of the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), recalling that the landmark statutory institution was established twenty-five years ago by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Stalin observed that Karunanidhi conceived the commission to provide ordinary citizens an accessible, independent legal forum against administrative overreach and injustice. Emphasizing the ideological compass of the Dravidian movement, the Chief Minister declared that self-respect constitutes the absolute foundation of universal human rights, dignity, and civic equality.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian model of governance operates not merely as an administrative machinery enforcing legal order, but as a proactive champion of social justice and constitutional equality. He pledged that his administration will guard human rights with unwavering vigilance, ensuring that disadvantaged social groups, workers, women, and minorities receive institutional protection and dignity. The Chief Minister directed state law enforcement agencies and administrative departments to function with genuine empathy, accountability, and respect for citizens' civil liberties. Stalin reiterated that protecting fundamental rights while redressing public grievances remains central to sustaining an equitable democratic society across Tamil Nadu.
