Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid glowing tribute to legendary anti-colonial warrior Ondiveeran on his two hundred fifty-first memorial anniversary, hailing his extraordinary battlefield valor and martyrdom in resisting British imperial aggression. Serving as the trusted military commander of legendary freedom fighter Pooli Thevar, Ondiveeran led fierce guerrilla assaults against British forces in the mid-eighteenth century, etching his name indelibly in the chronicles of India's earliest freedom struggle.
The Chief Minister recalled that in 2011, during the DMK administration led by Muthamizharignar Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi, the state government laid the foundation stone for a grand memorial hall at Nerkattumseval in Tirunelveli district to commemorate Ondiveeran's historic sacrifices. Stalin noted that the DMK has always remained at the forefront of identifying and celebrating marginalized subaltern warriors who fought foreign subjugation with undaunted courage.
Stalin affirmed that celebrating revolutionary historical figures reinforces public pride in Tamil Nadu's deep-rooted tradition of anti-colonial resistance and social justice. He urged contemporary youth to draw inspiration from Ondiveeran's fearless spirit and devotion to liberty, pledging that his administration will preserve and propagate his legacy across the nation.
