Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin commended the collaborative Happy Streets public wellness initiative organized by the Greater Chennai Corporation, the Chennai City Police, and The Times of India across various metropolitan neighborhoods. Expressing enthusiasm for the program, Stalin lauded the creative concept of opening vehicular roadways exclusively to pedestrians, children, and senior citizens on Sunday mornings to enjoy cycling, jogging, skating, yoga, and indigenous street games.
The Chief Minister stressed that maintaining physical fitness and mental tranquility is essential for today's younger generation, which frequently faces severe lifestyle stresses, sedentary screen habits, and urban academic pressures. Quoting the timeless Tamil proverb that health without disease is supreme wealth, Stalin pointed out that preventive community health practices significantly reduce lifestyle diseases and enhance collective urban happiness.
Stalin urged municipal bodies and community organizations across all thirty-eight districts to replicate similar open-street recreational events periodically. He affirmed that public spaces must be designed and utilized to foster active, healthy living, pledging continued state government support for initiatives that promote public wellness, community bonding, and recreational infrastructure across all major urban centers statewide.
