Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin marked Chennai Day by fondly recalling his formative administrative years as the directly elected Mayor of Chennai Corporation between 1996 and 2002. Expressing immense pride in having contributed directly to shaping the city's modern physical landscape, Stalin reflected on the enduring urban development projects initiated under his mayoral leadership, notably the construction of grade separators, flyovers, stormwater drainage canals, and green civic parks.
The Chief Minister assured citizens that his administration is executing an even more ambitious blueprint to modernize Chennai's urban infrastructure, improve transit systems, and expand flood resilience. Major state initiatives currently underway include the rapid expansion of the Chennai Metro Rail phase two network, the comprehensive rejuvenation of historic water bodies, and the modernization of solid waste management operations across all extended zones.
Stalin emphasized that Chennai represents a beacon of progressive culture, medical tourism, information technology innovation, and manufacturing leadership. He promised residents that the government will continue executing innovative, sustainable urban welfare projects, ensuring that Chennai flourishes as a world-class, inclusive, climate-resilient global metropolis for current residents and future generations.
