Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin attended the thirtieth Southern Zonal Council meeting convened in Kovalam, Kerala, presided over by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Representing Tamil Nadu alongside senior ministerial and administrative colleagues, Stalin articulated pressing state demands concerning financial devolution, central scheme allocations, power sector reforms, coastal security arrangements, and regional infrastructure needs before the gathered council members.
The Chief Minister utilized the summit platform to engage in direct discussions with his ministerial counterparts from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. He stressed that regular deliberations among southern states are essential for cultivating mutual understanding, addressing shared water and border management challenges, and promoting regional economic connectivity across transportation corridors and industrial networks.
Stalin underscored that true cooperative federalism demands meaningful institutional consideration of state perspectives by the Union government. He emphasized that southern states contribute substantially to national revenue and industrial growth, warranting equitable financial resources, policy flexibility, and collaborative mechanisms to sustain their economic momentum and public welfare models across diverse social sectors, industrial corridors, and essential public welfare delivery programs.
