Apart from imposing Hindi as a language, the BJP government has been imposing the false notion that only Hindi can unite the people of India.
If anything, the preferential treatment towards Hindi creates unwanted disgruntlement among the people of various states & divides them.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a scathing critique of the BJP-led Union government's relentless campaign to project Hindi as the sole unifying language of India, calling it a dangerous and divisive fallacy. Stalin pointed out that asserting that only one language can unite a subcontinent of vast cultural and linguistic diversity insults the rich heritage of every non-Hindi speaking community across the country.
The Chief Minister warned that disproportionate state patronage, central administrative mandates, and compulsory Hindi exams create acute resentment, alienation, and justified anger among non-Hindi speaking states. Stalin emphasized that national unity flourishes through mutual respect, decentralized power-sharing, and celebrated diversity, not through coercive homogenization. He observed that historical attempts to impose linguistic hegemony have invariably triggered severe national fractures, both within India and internationally.
Stalin reiterated that Tamil Nadu will never tolerate attempts to undermine its mother tongue or reduce other historic Indian languages to secondary status. He demanded that the Union government respect constitutional pluralism, halt covert language imposition in central schemes, and foster harmonious national integration based on genuine linguistic equality and federal respect.
