Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin warmly welcomed the Union Cabinet's long-awaited decision approving the inclusion of the Narikuravar and Kuruvikkaran communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes. Stalin described the milestone as a monumental triumph for the persistent, multi-decade struggle waged by the DMK and social justice crusaders to emancipate these historically nomadic and excluded communities.

The Chief Minister recalled that successive DMK administrations under M. Karunanidhi had systematically documented the community's living conditions, commissioned anthropological field studies, and repeatedly urged the Union government to grant them statutory tribal protections. Upon assuming office as Chief Minister, Stalin prioritized their welfare, directly writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and coordinating continuous parliamentary interventions by DMK MPs. The official ST classification now provides these marginalized communities with reserved admissions in higher education, targeted employment quotas, and specialized development funding.

Stalin affirmed that constitutional equality becomes tangible only when affirmative action reaches the furthest margins of society. He pledged that Tamil Nadu will aggressively implement comprehensive welfare measures to ensure the holistic long-term empowerment, secure livelihoods, and social dignity of Narikuravar families.
