Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially launched the pioneering Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme at the Adhithanar Primary School in Madurai, ushering in a transformative milestone in public school education across India. Stalin personally served nutritious, freshly cooked breakfast to young school children and shared the inaugural meal alongside them, exemplifying his compassionate, hands-on administrative ethos.
The Chief Minister traced the historic evolution of school nutrition in Tamil Nadu, noting how the Justice Party pioneered mid-day meals in Chennai in 1920, which was later expanded by Chief Minister K. Kamaraj and refined by M. Karunanidhi. Stalin observed that many underprivileged children attend morning classes on an empty stomach due to economic hardship, which severely impairs their cognitive focus and classroom learning. The new scheme eliminates childhood hunger, improves nutritional health, and boosts classroom attendance.
Stalin affirmed that the breakfast initiative is an investment in human capital rather than government expenditure. By nourishing young minds early in life, Tamil Nadu continues to lead India in social welfare innovation, ensuring every school child thrives academically, stays healthy, and learns with complete human dignity.
