Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take urgent policy measures to safeguard the academic futures of thousands of Indian medical students evacuated from Ukraine following the outbreak of war. Stalin stressed that these students, including hundreds from Tamil Nadu, face profound uncertainty and emotional trauma after their professional education was abruptly disrupted by geopolitical conflict.
The Chief Minister recommended implementing the concrete proposals submitted by the Lok Sabha Committee on External Affairs, which advised accommodating Ukraine-returned students in Indian private medical colleges as a one-time humanitarian relaxation. Alternatively, Stalin urged the Union government to formulate a centralized coordination framework with foreign universities offering equivalent medical curriculums, ensuring seamless credit transfers without financial exploitation or administrative delays.
Stalin emphasized that India cannot afford to let the talent and rigorous training of these aspiring doctors go to waste. He assured parents and student associations that the Tamil Nadu government will persistently advocate their cause with central regulatory authorities, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene expeditiously to protect their futures and provide comprehensive, compassionate academic relief.
