Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed warm appreciation and gratitude to Indian tennis legend and Tamil Nadu Tennis Association President Vijay Amritraj, Sports Minister Siva V. Meyyanathan, and state sports department officials for staging the WTA Chennai Open 2022. The successful tournament marked the triumphant return of international Women's Tennis Association Tour-level professional tennis to Chennai after a five-year hiatus.
Stalin observed that hosting elite international competitions demands meticulous logistical planning, world-class court infrastructure, and seamless coordination across multiple administrative agencies. The Chief Minister commended the organizing committee for providing an exceptional platform that allowed emerging Indian players to compete against leading global athletes on home courts. He noted that such prestigious tournaments ignite sporting passion among Tamil Nadu's youth and inspire grassroots sports participation across districts.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that his government will maintain substantial investments in stadium modernization, international coaching programs, and athlete support funds. By reviving Chennai's storied legacy as a world-class tennis venue, Stalin has reinforced Tamil Nadu's burgeoning international reputation as a welcoming, high-capability host for premier international athletic events and sports excellence.
