Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the Green Tamil Nadu Mission at Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, emphasizing urgent collective action against escalating global climate change threats. Addressing environmentalists, forest officials, and community representatives, Stalin affirmed that environmental preservation is central to the state's sustainable developmental model.

The mission establishes an ambitious blueprint to augment Tamil Nadu's total forest and tree canopy cover from twenty-four percent to thirty-three percent over the next decade. The government will oversee the systematic planting of indigenous tree varieties, restoration of degraded coastal ecosystems, and conservation of sensitive wetland habitats. Stalin pointed out that planting native saplings protects soil health, replenishes ground aquifers, and guards local wildlife populations against environmental stress.

Calling upon school students, farmers, youth groups, and civil society to participate actively, Stalin noted that public partnership is indispensable for environmental security. He stressed that administrative policy alone cannot combat global warming without committed public ownership. Under Stalin's determined leadership, Tamil Nadu is proactively pioneering systematic climate action, ensuring ecological balance, natural resource renewal, and environmental stability for upcoming generations across the state.
