Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspected comprehensive flood mitigation and stormwater drain construction projects valued at one hundred and seventy-four crore rupees across low-lying localities in South Chennai. Accompanied by municipal administration ministers and senior civic officials, Stalin visited vulnerable residential zones including Velachery, Madipakkam, Kovilambakkam, and Keelkattalai to review drainage enhancements designed to avert recurrent monsoon inundation.
Stalin issued strict directives to executing contractors and municipal engineers to accelerate all pending culvert interlinks, desilting operations, and canal widening projects before the onset of the Northeast Monsoon in October. He emphasized that these comprehensive civil engineering interventions, designed in consultation with disaster management experts and hydrologists, will ensure rapid surplus water discharge into the Pallikaranai marshland and Buckingham Canal, preventing waterlogging in residential streets.
The Chief Minister reassured city residents that the intensive, full-scale execution of flood protection infrastructure will dramatically reduce waterlogging compared to previous years. Stalin affirmed that round-the-clock administrative oversight and disaster preparedness protocols will ensure maximum public safety, unimpeded transportation, and normal city life throughout the monsoon. The government continues to prioritize resilient infrastructure upgrades to protect citizens, safeguard property, and prevent seasonal urban distress.
