Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered a special address on Centre-State relations at the 24th State Conference of the Communist Party of India in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Speaking before communist leaders, political delegates, and trade union activists, Stalin commended the shared historical and cultural camaraderie between the working-class movements of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, highlighting their joint struggles for social emancipation and workers' welfare.
Focusing on the erosion of federalism under the central government, Stalin argued that Governors appointed by the Union are increasingly functioning as political agents to stall legislative bills duly enacted by state assemblies. He underscored that using gubernatorial offices to obstruct progressive state welfare legislation represents a blatant subversion of parliamentary democracy and popular mandates. He cited Tamil Nadu's anti-NEET bill and online gambling prohibition as stark examples of central delays.
Stalin called upon southern states and progressive political parties nationwide to establish a united cooperative front to demand equitable tax sharing, legislative independence, and non-interference in state governance. He emphasized that genuine democracy requires a strong Centre coexisting with autonomous, self-reliant states. He reaffirmed that collective resistance against political centralization will protect India's pluralistic democracy and cooperative federal balance.
