Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally inaugurated the year-long Vallalar Tri-Centenary celebration organized by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department in Chennai. The historic event marked the 200th birth anniversary of Ramalinga Swamigal, the 156th anniversary of the founding of the Sathya Gnana Sabhai, and the 152nd anniversary of lighting the eternal hunger-relief lamp at Vadalur.
Delivering the keynote address, Stalin stated that Vallalar was a radical spiritual egalitarian whose poetic denunciation of superstitious religious orthodoxies and caste oppression mirrored the rationalist ideals of the Dravidian movement. He recalled that the sacred flame ignited by Vallalar in 1867 to feed hungry wayfarers has burned uninterruptedly for over a century and a half, exemplifying divine compassion through selfless social service. The state government remains dedicated to upholding this legacy by expanding free noon-meal and breakfast schemes.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the planned Vallalar International Centre at Vadalur would stand as a monument to universal brotherhood. Stalin urged citizens and youth to assimilate Vallalar's luminous message of harmony, ahimsa, and social service into daily civic life. The state administration remains committed to preserving and promoting spiritual humanism and inclusive social welfare statewide.
