Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid glowing tributes to the nineteenth-century spiritual reformer and poet Ramalinga Swamigal, reverently known as Vallalar, on his 200th birth anniversary. Describing Vallalar as an early philosophical beacon of the Dravidian movement who vehemently rejected blind ritualism and caste divisions, Stalin announced that the state government is establishing a state-of-the-art Vallalar International Centre in Vadalur at an estimated cost of one hundred crore rupees.
Stalin highlighted that the DMK government had officially designated Vallalar's birth anniversary as 'Day of Supreme Compassion' (Thanipperum Karunai Naal) to propagate his universal philosophy of Jeevakarunyam, which places eradication of hunger and empathy for all living beings at the center of human existence. The year-long commemorative celebrations will encompass spiritual symposiums, publication of classical treatises, and feeding drives across ancient dining halls established by the saint.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the Vadalur International Centre will feature an expansive research library, meditation halls, exhibition spaces, and green facilities for visiting scholars and devotees worldwide. Stalin declared that honor paid to Vallalar celebrates humanity, egalitarian brotherhood, and eternal Tamil compassion. The landmark project embodies the state's devotion to preserving noble cultural values.
