Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that October 7 will be celebrated annually across the state to commemorate the inauguration of the historic Parambikulam Aliyar Project. Stalin explained that the annual celebration aims to educate the younger generation on the critical importance of water conservation, sustainable irrigation management, and inter-state hydrological cooperation. He paid rich tributes to Perunthalaivar K. Kamaraj and pioneering engineers whose administrative dedication brought the monumental multi-purpose river project into reality.

The Chief Minister recalled that the Parambikulam Aliyar Project, conceived through visionary negotiations between Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the late 1950s, transformed arid agricultural tracts in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts into fertile green belts. The engineering marvel harnesses surplus monsoon waters through a network of dams, tunnels, and contour canals, providing assured irrigation to over four lakh acres and meeting drinking water needs for numerous rural and urban settlements.

Stalin affirmed that modern governance must emulate the foresight of historical leaders by prioritizing water security, lake rejuvenation, and check dam construction. His administration remains dedicated to modernizing state irrigation infrastructure and protecting agrarian livelihoods.
