Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted an extensive on-site inspection of ongoing stormwater drain construction and canal desilting works across several densely populated neighborhoods in North Chennai. Determined to avert urban flooding that affected residential localities in previous monsoon seasons, Stalin reviewed the pace, structural quality, and carrying capacity of integrated stormwater drainage systems being executed by the Greater Chennai Corporation.
Walking through low-lying residential stretches and interacting directly with civic engineers and local residents, Stalin instructed municipal contractors and department officials to expedite remaining canal interlinks without compromising engineering standards. He directed authorities to remove accumulated silt and construction debris immediately, ensuring unimpeded discharge into waterways like the Buckingham Canal, Kosasthalaiyar basin, and Otteri Nullah. Special teams were deployed to monitor critical bottlenecks and position high-capacity diesel water pumps.
The Chief Minister assured citizens that the state administration has undertaken permanent, science-based flood mitigation infrastructure across Chennai. Stalin affirmed that relentless day-and-night field execution by civic agencies would protect vulnerable communities from inundation, ensuring public safety and normal civic life throughout the impending Northeast Monsoon. The state administration remains committed to providing resilient civic infrastructure and rapid municipal disaster response mechanisms.
