Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the birth anniversary of celebrated Chola Emperor Raja Raja Chola, falling on the auspicious star day of Aippasi Sathayam, will be commemorated annually as an official state festival. Paying homage to the legendary monarch, Stalin celebrated his peerless artistic vision in erecting the magnificent Brihadisvara Temple in Thanjavur and his valiant naval and military campaigns that established Tamil glory across Asia.
The Chief Minister noted that Raja Raja Chola's administrative legacy shines like a permanent pole star in world history, marked by sophisticated local self-governance, agrarian canal networks, and maritime trade expansions. By according official government festival status to Sathaya Vizha, the state government honors the cultural contributions of Tamil antiquity and invites younger generations to study classical architecture, civic planning, and historical literature.
Stalin directed the Thanjavur district administration and the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to organize commemorative cultural exhibitions, symposiums, and heritage seminars alongside temple ceremonies. The decision reflects the administration's broader commitment to preserving Tamil historical monuments, recognizing ancient civilizational achievements, and fostering deep cultural pride among citizens statewide.
