Deeply pained to hear about the fire accident and loss of lives in Maldives. We are in touch with the Indian mission to coordinate the efforts to bring back the mortal remains of the deceased to Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound anguish and sorrow over the catastrophic fire accident in Male, Maldives, which claimed the lives of numerous migrant workers, including several individuals hailing from Tamil Nadu. Extending his heartfelt condolences to the grief-stricken families, Stalin immediately mobilized the state administration and the Commissionerate of Non-Resident Tamils Welfare to establish emergency communication links with the Indian High Commission in Maldives.
The Chief Minister directed state officials to liaise continuously with diplomatic authorities in Male to expedite the formal identification, legal clearances, and dignified repatriation of the victims' mortal remains back to their native villages in Tamil Nadu. The state government undertook all logistical expenses for air transportation and announced immediate financial assistance to console the bereaved families, ensuring that the next of kin receive prompt governmental guidance and psychological support.
Stalin reaffirmed his government's steadfast commitment to protecting the rights, safety, and welfare of Tamil expatriates working across the globe. By maintaining rapid-response diplomatic mechanisms during international crises, Tamil Nadu ensures that global Tamils and their families receive compassionate, immediate state assistance during unexpected tragedies abroad.
