Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized that equating centuries of systemic caste-based subjugation and educational disenfranchisement with transient economic distress fundamentally misinterprets the constitutional doctrine of affirmative action, which was designed exclusively to rectify historic social hierarchies.

The Chief Minister noted that an individual's economic status can fluctuate rapidly due to market conditions, employment shifts, or personal fortune, whereas caste-based discrimination remains an indelible social stigma imposed across generations. By restricting the 10 percent economic quota exclusively to forward castes while deliberately excluding impoverished backward classes, Dalits, and tribal citizens, the policy creates an unconstitutional quota for the privileged, eroding the core principle of equality before the law.
