Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed the graduation day ceremony at Queen Mary's College in Chennai, one of India's oldest and most prestigious women's higher educational institutions. Recalling pivotal moments from his political journey—notably the fierce student and public resistance that thwarted previous regime attempts to demolish the historic heritage campus—Stalin paid heartfelt tribute to the institution for empowering generations of pioneering women scholars and leaders across Tamil Nadu.
Highlighting the government's visionary Puthumai Penn scheme, which provides monthly financial assistance of one thousand rupees to girl students from government schools pursuing collegiate degrees, Stalin announced the sanctioning and construction of an expansive modern hostel within the Queen Mary's campus. This facility will accommodate hundreds of economically disadvantaged rural female students, removing housing hurdles and facilitating undisturbed academic pursuits in the state capital city.
Stalin urged the graduating scholars to shatter patriarchal stereotypes, pursue career excellence, and actively lead societal transformation. He reaffirmed that empowering women through accessible higher education forms the bedrock of the Dravidian Model, ensuring progressive gender equity, economic self-reliance, and self-respect across all sections of society.
