Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presided over the high-level meeting of the State Advisory Board for Persons with Disabilities at the Secretariat in Chennai, reviewing departmental initiatives and issuing directives to strengthen inclusive governance. Emphasizing that he retains direct ministerial oversight of the disability welfare portfolio to ensure prompt administrative execution, Stalin engaged directly with board members, disability rights advocates, and senior bureaucrats to evaluate the ground reality of welfare delivery across districts.
During the deliberations, Stalin reviewed key interventions including the disbursement of monthly maintenance allowances, assistive mobility equipment distribution, inclusive educational reservations, and vocational skill programs. He instructed all civic departments, particularly transport, municipal administration, and public works, to accelerate the audit and retrofitting of government complexes, bus shelters, and civic transit nodes to ensure total physical accessibility for persons with reduced mobility.
Stalin reiterated that his government regards disability rights as an urgent matter of social justice and human dignity. By institutionalizing participatory consultative forums like the Advisory Board, Tamil Nadu ensures that welfare policies are collaboratively refined, eliminating administrative lethargy and establishing barrier-free equality throughout society.
