Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered the presidential address at the state-level celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Chennai, articulating the government's unwavering dedication to building a universally accessible society. Addressing activists, special educators, and differently abled citizens, Stalin underscored that his administration views disability welfare not as an act of charity, but as an essential constitutional right demanding active structural facilitation.
Highlighting his direct administrative supervision of the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons Department, Stalin recounted multiple reforms instituted since assuming office. These include retrofitting public transportation with wheelchair ramps, constructing permanent pathways across Chennai beaches, issuing motorized retrofitted vehicles, and enhancing monthly pensions. He stated that government departments have received strict directives to ensure absolute physical accessibility across public buildings, educational campuses, and civic services.
Stalin concluded by assuring that suggestions from disability rights organizations will continue guiding policy formulations. By fostering empathy, expanding modern assistive devices, and creating inclusive economic opportunities, Tamil Nadu remains determined to ensure that every differently abled citizen lives with uncompromised independence, equal dignity, and full societal participation.
