Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Tamil Isai Sangam in Chennai, paying tribute to its visionary founder, Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar. Stalin stated that the slogan 'Tamil everywhere, Tamil in everything' applies with equal urgency to the world of classical music. He lauded the Sangam as a fortress established to protect native Tamil music and ensure songs in the mother tongue resonated on concert stages.
Recalling the historic Tamil Isai Movement launched in the 1940s, Stalin explained how Tamil songs had once been systematically marginalized in Carnatic concert halls dominated by other languages. Leaders like Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar, Kalki Krishnamurthy, and Dravidian pioneers fought resolutely to restore the dignity of Tamil compositions. Stalin emphasized that music becomes truly divine and meaningful only when listeners understand the linguistic emotion and poetic depth of the lyrics being performed.
The Chief Minister wished the Tamil Isai Sangam enduring growth and cultural vitality as it entered its ninth decade. He assured continued government patronage for traditional Tamil performing arts, ancient Pann compositions, and folk musicians, ensuring the classical richness of Tamil melody inspires upcoming generations.
